Your family is already something beautiful. You don't need to be arranged and posed for the camera — you just need someone paying close enough attention to catch you as you actually are. That's what I do as a Des Moines family photographer, and it's what makes the difference between a photo you hang on the wall and one that makes you catch your breath.
The Approach
I know what stiff, overly coordinated family photos look like — and I actively work against them. My approach to family photography in Des Moines is candid and unhurried. We find a great location, I let the kids be kids, and I stay ready for the moments that matter: the way your toddler runs toward you, the quiet look between you and your partner, the grandparent who can't stop smiling.
Sessions take place on location — parks, backyards, open fields, downtown Des Moines streets. I know the best light in the area and when to use it. We'll pick a time that works with your family's energy, not against it.
Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes. Your edited gallery is delivered within three weeks — high-resolution, print-ready, and with full print release included.

The Details
I keep things simple. You get a relaxed session at a location that fits your family, light that I've scouted ahead of time, and images that are fully edited and delivered through a private online gallery. No rush, no rigid shot lists, no pressure.
Family sessions are typically booked in the spring and fall when the Des Moines light is at its most beautiful, but I photograph families year-round — including in the snow, which is honestly one of my favorite settings.

Family sessions throughout the Des Moines metro and greater Iowa include travel at no additional charge. If you have a favorite spot — a park you visit every summer, your family farm, a neighborhood you love — let's shoot there.
I also travel to Minnesota and beyond for extended family sessions and multi-generational reunion portraits. Wherever your family gathers, I can be there.
